Over the years we have strived to fulfill our mission through the various programs we offer. Whether it is providing a safe haven for children or reaching out to the community at large through our social service program.

The scriptures tell us to “train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it." Over the years, Edna Martin Christian Center has been the training ground for young people in our community. Over the years EMCC has planted seeds within the participants and I feel blessed to see one of those seeds fully grown and blossoming.

Ronald grew up directly across the street from the center and from an early age was a regular program participant. As he reached his teen years he was torn between what he knew was right and the lure of the streets. He stated that for several years he operated on the fringes of high risk behavior and engaged in some activities that he knew were wrong as a means of fitting in and being a part of the culture that was attractive to most of his peers. By the grace of God, he was able to draw on his early training and turn his life around.

Ronald is now using his training as a means of reaching our youth and helping them to avoid some of the negative influences that surround our youth today. He has brought a program to the center called AfterSchool R.O.C.K., a character development program designed to teach our youth the skills necessary to avoid hi-risks situations that involve alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

We are proud of him and the many others that have been encouraged, empowered and given a vision of hope as a result of the ministry of Edna Martin Christian Center.
